What we Believe

images-heart-shape

We believe in living out our Christian faith as effectively as possible, having an impact on those who have not yet heard or experienced the great news about Jesus Christ.

We believe we should share the good news about Jesus, equip people in their faith journey and see them live out their faith in the world.

Our Core Values
  • As we praise our God with our lives  in the name of Jesus, our desire is to glorify Him by being daily transformed into His image and living for Him in the power of His indwelling Spirit.
  • We desire to grow in the knowledge of our Lord and to allow our lives to be shaped and directed by His Word, in order that we can know God deeply and personally.
  • We aim to be a genuine and embracing church, a community of God’s people that cares for and loves each other as God loves us.
  • Serving others in Jesus’ name is high on our core value list. With God’s help, it is our aim to somehow make a radical difference in our Church, the Newcastle community and beyond.
  •  We also seek to bring God’s word in a Spirit-led and often natural way, so that others may come to know Jesus as Saviour and Lord, that they too might  share the joy of the Lord  whose Gospel changes lives , transforms communities and alters eternal destinies.

What we believe

Newcastle Baptist Church is part of the Association of Baptist Churches in Ireland.
There are over 110 churches in the association and each Church affirms the following doctrines which are commonly believed among us:

Our Doctrinal Statement

The Scriptures
The verbal inspiration and total inerrancy of the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as originally given by God; their sole-sufficiency and final authority in all matters of faith and practice.

God
One God in three persons, the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, co-equal, co-eternal, sovereign and active in creation, providence and redemption.

The Lord Jesus Christ
The essential deity and perfect humanity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only mediator between God and men; His virgin birth, sinless life and sacrificial death on the cross as the only substitute for sinners; His burial, bodily resurrection and ascension to heaven; His high priestly ministry and personal return.

The Holy Spirit
The work of the Holy Spirit in regenerating the sinner and indwelling, sanctifying and empowering the believer.

The Devil
The personality of the devil; his evil activity and final doom.

Man
The creation of man in the image of God; the entrance of sin through Adam's disobedience; the fallen and totally depraved state of all men; their subjection to God's wrath and condemnation; their responsibility to repent and believe the Gospel.

Justification
The justification of the sinner by God's grace alone through faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ alone; the eternal security of the believer.

The Church
The church, the body of Christ, made up of those drawn from every tribe, language, people and nation throughout history who are added to it by the work of the Holy Spirit and the exercise of faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; the scriptural expression of the church in the world as the local company of baptised believers gathered under the headship of Christ for worship, fellowship, instruction and evangelism, in separation from all systems of belief that do not adhere to the Scriptures and are unfaithful to the gospel of salvation by grace alone; the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's supper: baptism being the immersion of believers on profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and a symbol of their identification with Him in His death, burial and resurrection; the Lord's supper being a remembrance of Christ until He comes and a renewal of commitment to Him; the offices of elder and deacon; the gifts of evangelist and pastor-teacher; the priesthood of all believers and their unity in the Body of Christ; the separation of church and state.

The Future State
The unconditional immortality of the soul; the resurrection of the body; the eternal joy in heaven of the believer; the conscious eternal punishment in hell of those who die impenitent.

Christian Behaviour
The responsibility of all believers to obey and serve the Lord and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives; the duty of each church to exercise godly discipline in a loving and caring fashion.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Welcome!

If you're coming to our church for the first time here's some information you may find helpful. A warm welcome will await you when you come along.

We meet for worship (details here) every Sunday morning at 11.00 a.m. and every other Sunday evening at 6.30 p.m. - do check "What's On" just in case there are any changes!

Our Services

Our Sunday services are informal; we sing hymns and songs, pray together and read the Bible. A key part of our service is what we call the sermon. This is a Bible based talk of 20-30 minutes giving us teaching and instruction that we can apply to our daily lives.

Twice a month, as part of one of our Sunday services, we have what we call "Communion". This is where we set aside time to specifically remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our forgiveness. At this time we share bread and wine together. If you are not a believer, and not trusting in Christ alone for salvation, we are happy for you to stay and observe this part of the service.

We also meet each Wednesday night at 7.30 p.m. for Bible Study and prayer together. This is another informal meeting which lasts for about an hour.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. There are disabled toilets in the main foyer.

Welcome

What about my kids?

We have programmes lined up for kids of all ages each Sunday morning:

  • Creche (birth to pre-school ) Children under 6 months are welcome but must be accompanied by their parent/grown-up at all times.
  • Shine  (for Primary School Children. They will leave the service at approx 11.15 a.m.)

Children stay with their parent or grown-up at the start of the service. We really value worshipping God all together as a family. At the appropriate time someone will announce that it's time for the younger members to go to their various groups. You will need to go with your children to their groups and register them as part of our child safety policy.

The kids group activities vary depending on the age but there is a friendly welcome, bible stories, praying, music, craft, fun games and free play. Please don't forget to pick your children up as soon as the service finishes!

Being part of one of our home groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. Check out Home Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a home group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
